One of the major challenges faced by an all-volunteer, geographically widespread organization such as GLAD Alliance is completing timely mailings to members and other supporters. However, with tremendous effort and dedication by several individuals, including support from an Open & Affirming congregation, distribution of the 2004 "Over and Above" letter was a major success.
The project began with a letter drafted by Development and Finance (D&F) Leader Randy Palmer in Pittsburgh, signed by Moderator David Nickell in Oklahoma City and forwarded to D&F Team member Roberta Coss, a member of North Side Christian Church in Omaha. Concurrently with the preparation of the letter, GLAD’s material distribution coordinator, Rev. Jeff Zimmerman in Ann Arbor, shipped a supply of stationery to Roberta while GLAD’s database manager, Rev. Mark Johnston in Boston, sorted, printed and shipped address labels. Roberta, with the support of the congregation at North Side, coordinated the printing, purchase of postage, collating, folding, stuffing, labeling, stamping, sealing and mailing of the letters all designed to arrive in mailboxes of recipients during the latter part of the first week of November.
