On November 4 The GLAD Alliance Council and Ministry Team Leaders, meeting at Central Christian Church in Indianapolis for our annual planning retreat, asked "is there more we can do and be?"
The Councils feeling was that we had slipped into a predictable pattern of what we do.
We were lead in retreat by Linda Gardner, an active Disciple who is the Moderator of her Region and is a professional facilitator helping organizations with long range planning. Her business is Organizational Effectiveness in Costa Mesa, CA.
We examined what GLAD does well, what we can do more of, and where we want to keep or focus and energy. We agreed that our Open & Affirming program, a booth at General Assembly and an event in non-assembly years and Crossbeams are all significant.
The leadership team also made significant progress that committed the Alliance to strengthening our existing successful programs and a new commitment to a stronger presence at all levels of the Church. You will see evidence of that new commitment in this Crossbeams and in the near future.
I want to express GLADs appreciation to Central Christian for their gracious hospitality and to Council member Patti Case for her help with local arrangements. I also want to thank Council members and Team Leaders who were willing to work twelve-hour days to include this long range planning to the regular business that the Council needed to address.
