During recent General Assemblies, a portion of the convention center has been transformed into a festival setting where congregations, regions and general units share, through displays and demonstrations, the myriad and creative ways, they are giving life to the churchs mission. During the Portland Assembly, North Side Christian Church of Omaha, NE, one of GLADs Open & Affirming congregations, will sponsor the "Coming Out Labyrinth" as a part of VisionFest 2005.
GLAD members were first introduced to the interactive, experiential labyrinth last July. Rev. Nancy Brink, North Sides pastor and a co-presenter at last summers Des Moines Event, shared the labyrinth with Event participants. Phil Ewoldsen of West Terre Haute, IN described the Coming Out Labyrinth as "the most powerful part" of the Event. He said the journey through the labyrinth while listening to guide the CD and surrounded by the Shower of Stoles was "a time of remembering, thanking, redefining, rediscovering Gods message of love and acceptance, and a call to responsibility."
GLADs General Assembly Planning Team is excited that North Side has taken this opportunity to share the labyrinth with Assembly goers. GLAD will provide financial and staffing support for labyrinth.
