Dear Family and Friends
Eddie and I just returned from seeing a new documentary film, in a local Landmark Theatre, that I want to highly recommend to you! The film is titled “For the BIBLE Tells Me So” and covers the issue of homosexuality and the Bible in a very interesting and powerful way. I encourage you to see it when and if it comes to a theatre near you! It just opened in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles about a week ago, and now is showing in selected theatres across the country. If it doesn’t come to a theatre near you, I encourage you to rent or purchase the DVD when it comes out!
What made it even more exciting for Eddie and me, is that we both know, personally, a number of those who are included in the film! We are both personal friends with Steve Kindle and Steve Baines, two of the persons who give spoken input in the film. I also know, and have worked with, three others: Larry Keene, a pastor of one of our Disciple congregations in LA; Joan Campbell, former head of the National Council of Churches; and Mel White, founder of Soul Force. In addition to that, I have heard and met both Bishop Desmond Tutu and Peter Gomes, who have spoken at our denomination’s General Assembly. Bishop Gene Robinson’s parents, who have a major role in the documentary, are from a Disciple congregation in Kentucky, making a total of 6 persons shown in the film who are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the denomination in which I served as a minister for 44 years!
This documentary is a very powerful and moving film that is both provocative and insightful. I believe that every person owes it to themselves and their family to see this film! They also owe it to their faith, their church and their denomination if they are a part of a faith community!
I would be glad to hear back from any of you after you have see the film! I hope that it will be an important documentary for you and your life!
