Widening the Welcome: Conversations in the Pacific Southwest

GLAD Council continues negotiations with the Christian Church in the Pacific Southwest regarding a conversation designed to cross lines of ethnicity and sexual orientation.

The originally planned conversation would have been part of the GLAD Retreat this summer. That event was cancelled when registrations were not high enough to ensure sufficient participation.

While the conversation was considered a "great idea" by many members, most reported fuel price increases and schedule conflicts kept them from attending.

"As Disciples consider our newly stated identity, 'a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world,' the time has come for deep, honest conversation about the brokenness of our own community. We need to look at how we live into this notion of wholeness as Disciples, vis-à-vis the communities of color and the LGBTQ community," said Maria Perez, GLAD Moderator.

The Strategic Action Team of the Council will pursue the conversation, she said.
